Poetry...Gets 'Em Every Time

Sometimes I like to reminisce with Lauren about the good old days in our relationship. Our "courtship" period.

I would come home after a hard day of work of flexing my eyebrows and gelling my hair to smoke my corn cob pipe. Lauren would carefully fold up her cat sweater and put it back in her closet full of other cat sweaters. And then we would sit by the fire and listen to the radio. Good times.

The perfect couple. Yep, me and that pipe.

The picture above was from a Christmas party from a few years ago. I liked this picture so much that I framed it and gave to Lauren as a present. Because that's how I roll. I give Lauren pictures of myself as presents.

More importantly, along with the picture I included a poem by one of my favorite poets Pablo Neruda. Besides having an awesome name, Mr. Neruda also packed a punch with his prose.

The particular poem I included is called "If You Forget Me". I won't include the whole poem here, just the last part, which is usually the best part of all poems.

If each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

People named Paul - is there anything we can't do?
